The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for marine research, technology development and innovation in Ireland. We provide scientific and technical advice to government to help inform policy and to support the sustainable development of Ireland’s marine resource.

Our vision: “A thriving maritime economy in harmony with the ecosystem and supported by the delivery of excellence in our services “

In order to achieve our vision we have six service areas, including; 1)Ocean Science and Information Services, 2) Marine Environment & Food Safety Services, 3) Fisheries Ecosystems Advisory Services, 4) Irish Maritime Development Office, 5) Corporate Services and 6) Policy, Innovation and Research Support Services.

We provide a range of services to ensure the aquaculture industry operates to international best practice standards, in accordance with national and European legislation, and we carry out a range of seafood safety programmes to ensure that Irish seafood products supplied to National and International markets are of the highest quality regarding food safety standards.

The Marine Institute will implement a lead role in the coordination of project PRIMROSE, maintaining strong relations with other partners and building on the considerable knowledge and expertise in HABs research that exists in the consortium. We will also contribute to all the project work packages, towards the development of a sustainable, automated product for the European aquaculture industry.
